This true story of Corrie's family life and living in Holland and thinking that they would be protected from the war in Germany. In the beginning it's peaceful until the ugly part of life took over in her town. The decision to hide the Jews was a big cross to bear and they finally were found out and taken to the camps. The terrible treatment they had to endure, the lack of warm clothing and having to stand outside for hours etc. After a few months Corrie's sister died and later Corrie was given permission to leave. She was the only one in her age group that was given permission to leave the camp by God's design and the next day all the women her age were euthanized. It's a hard book to read but the writer keeps the reader moving on because the second book, Tramp For the Lord explains why she was directed by God for humankind. We were assigned this book as a reading project in my high school history class when I was a freshman. I was very taken with the book and amazed at the endurance given to Corrie and her family by God. Several years after I graduated, I found the book and purchased it to read again and again. I lost the book when I loaned it to someone else to read and it was never returned, so I was very pleased to find it to purchase again. When my faith is being tested and I feel my life is getting too hard, I have only to read this inspiring book again to remember that others have gone through much worse than I have and I realize how blessed I am.Very very good book that speaks of Corrie and her family's faith during their trials and tribulations in WWII. Very easy read. Will not want to put book down. One of the best books on the Holocaust I have ever read and I have read most of them over the years. It will make you smile, cry, think. I walked away thinking if I and everyone else could be half the person the Ten Booms were, then the world might be a better place when it comes to Humanity. Loved it, planning on reading all the other books by her too. This is a true story as told by Corrie ten Boom of her and her family's journey through life and told with so much earnestness and humility ! You feel as if you are one of the family members and experience everything they are going through and it just strengthens your faith in God ! The suffering they had to endure was awful , but they endured to the end and was used most powerfully by God as an example to everyone who reads this book and others by the same author ! I highly recommend it !This book is a life changer! Read it!!This book is a fantastic read! Corrie Ten Boom's unwavering faith in God, while in the midst of absolute evil and despair, will humble anybody. Would you, could you, sacrifice your own safety and well-being for the safety and "freedom" of others? I love this book so much I sent a copy to my mother.I had the privilege of hearing Corrie Ten Boom in person. As I read the book years ago, her family's love of God and Christian witness even as they lived under the Nazi regime came through so poignantly and moving. If you want to know how a Christian's life should be lived, read this book. Powerful and moving.Corrie Ten Boom's best book. I gave this to a friend for Christmas and it was his favourite book. He has sight issues and I was so glad I could get a large print copy.Happy with the book and the time it took to arrive.
