Missing Lily is the companion novel to Just Ella, which if you haven't read, you should go buy and read it right now! If you absolutely can't wait to read Missing Lily, which I understand, you can read the books out of order. Reading Just Ella first will just give you more background on the kingdom and the Royal family.Missing Lilly starts when Princess Lylin is on her way home from her sister's and men try to kidnap her. Lylin's guard fights them off, and sends her ahead. After hours of running away on horseback, then on foot, Lylin finds a barn to hide in. The owner of the barn and manor finds her and takes her in. At first, Lylin hides her identity because she's just been chased for nefarious purposes, then she keeps hiding her identity because she likes being "Lily". She likes befriending The Lord of the manor, Rhys Fallon, she likes being treated normal. Blissful days go by as Lily and Rhys' friendship grows, until Rhys mentions that he's betrothed. Shortly thereafter Lily goes home, still thinking of Rhys, but honoring his integrity to his unknown bride. My favorite part of the story was the letters that Lily writes, starting when she returns home. She writes heartfelt letters to Rhys that she never plans to send explaining her deception and her feelings. When unforeseen circumstances bring Rhys and Lily together again, yet still keep them apart, the letters helped settle my angst! Even though they weren't being sent, they gave me hope for some honest communication between our characters in the future.Missing Lily was a story full of adventure, love, and honorable (and admirable) characters. Okay, they were dishonorable characters, they move the plot along. Lily and Rhys just seemed so worthy of finding love and happiness together. I loved the book and can't wait for Annette Larsen to write more!Content: Clean. Some violence (sword fighting), no swearing, some kissing. I'd feel comfortable giving this to a young teenager to read.
